Cytomegalovirus colitis in an immunocompetent elderly man
نویسنده
چکیده
Cytomegalovirus colitis is uncommon in immunocompetent hosts. Thus, a case of bloody diarrhoea and weight loss in an immunocompetent elderly man is reported. Cytomegalovirus colitis was diagnosed by identifying inclusion bodies with positive immunohistochemistry for cytomegalovirus in the histological specimens obtained by colonoscopy. The patient responded to gancyclovir treatment. We conclude that cytomegalovirus colitis should be considered in elderly immunocompetent patients presenting with bloody diarrhoea.

Cytomegalovirus Colitis in an Immunocompetent Patient: Report of a Case
Abstract Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus that can be consider as invasive infection after transplantation or chemotherapy, long-term corticosteroid users or in immunodeficient patients such as HIV. Different complications were seen in immunocompetent patients but colitis rarely occurs. The diagnosis of CMV was based on pathology by colonoscopy, positive CMV antigen and high CMV-IgM titer serum...

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection can present with severe manifestations that are associated with significant morbidity and mortality, especially in immunocompromised patients. CMV infections in immunocompetent patients are usually transient and do not exhibit many symptoms. However, in some patients, the manifestations can be severe. We report CMV colitis in two immunocompetent patients; one in ...

BACKGROUND Infection with gastrointestinal cytomegalovirus in an immunocompetent host is a rather rare occurrence in the literature. There are a few reports of gastrointestinal infection in the immunocompetent who are then subsequently given a new diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease. It is speculated that the initial cytomegalovirus colitis infection triggers the onset of inflammatory bowel...

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is often seen in immunocompromised patients. Rarely, immunocompetent patients may present with CMV as a self-limiting, flu-like illness, though a few cases of significant organ-specific complications have been reported in these patients. We report a case in which a previously healthy man presented with hematochezia and an obstructing rectal mass thought to be rec...

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis usually occurs in immunocompromised patients after undergoing organ transplantation or chemotherapy. We report the case of a 60-year-old immunocompetent Japanese woman who presented with abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. She was initially diagnosed as having ischemic colitis with pseudomembranous colitis on the basis of her symptoms, Clostridium difficile antigen...
